The Future Entrepreneurs Program’s evaluation process was carried out with the children who currently have a GHBF English as a second language (ESL) scholarship in order to ensure its successful development. Specifically, our team carried out interviews with the children, their parents and their teachers about their experience with the program, including their individual and group lessons.
In general, the feedback was very positive and the scholarship’s grantees reported a significant improvement in their written and oral ESL knowledge. Furthermore, they felt more confident and less fearful to make mistakes. These data corroborated with their teachers’ (Gabriela Copello Duque and Inés Rueda) feedback which highlighted the students’ increased self-confidence and self-efficacy since the beginning of the program. These positive changes demonstrate that the ESL program is meeting its objectives in terms of the participants’ learning process and ESL fluency.
The GHBF’s Team also identified ways in which the program could be improved in the area of student group lessons with differing ESL levels. The lesson’s format was modified to allow for equal degree of students’ participation regardless of their ESL knowledge and oral fluency. Furthermore, the GHBF Team will continue to develop innovative methodologies (e.g. incorporating yoga and mindfulness principles) which will further enhance the scholarship grantees’ learning ability in this program and other academic programs.
