The Global Health Beat Foundation (GHBF) launches a series of yoga, mindfulness, and wellness tailored to adults in the Ibagué área in Tolima, Colombia.
The first workshop took place on Saturday April 23, 2022. Under the expert Sybila Guerra’s (Sisi) guidance, the participants (women and men, 20 to 60 years old) enjoyed yoga, mindfulness and an exercise about emotions (shame, fear, anger and disgust) in a tropical setting surrounded by various flora and fauna. The various activities aimed at helping the participants find a psico-emotional balance, and reduce daily stressors’ adverse effects.
The participants reported having enjoyed the workshop’s content and format, which allowed them to identify, process and better manage their adverse current or past experiences:
“What I most liked about the workshop was that I was able to connect with nature, and understand the importance of stopping, and thinking about me”– expressed Andrea (25 years old), one of the participants about her experience.
In addition, participants expressed high interest in putting into practice the psychological tools learned during the workshop (e.g., yoga postures, meditation and breething exercises) in their personal and profesional lifes. They were also very enthusiastic in participating in our upcoming workshop series:
“This workshop provided us various psychological tools which we can use at a personal and profesional level. Among them, the importance of identifying, accepting and putting aside fears and past traumas we have, in order to be able to forgive” – shared Jhoan Sebastián (31 years old) a male participant.
The funds raised during this and future workshops and retreats will be reinvested in education, health and wellness activities tailored to under-resourced communities in the Ibagué área, as well as other Colombian regions.
