English Learning Program “La Palma”

Education is one of the most effective ways to promote equity and contribute to the socio-economic well-being of a society. This program seeks to provide people with a way to learn a second language, aiming to create a culture of globalization. This program is directed primarily towards individuals from low socio-economic strata. Program activities are aimed at helping people from rural communities gain the opportunity to participate in international experiences (eg student internships at the college, university and professional level) and to get to know other parts of the world and/or cultures through mulitple channels that enrich the learning of the English language and other societies.

Today learning English is an indispensable tool that: 1) Increases the likelihood of obtaining scholarships; 2) opens doors to educational opportunities; and 3) allows participation in courses and programs for professional development. Knowing this, our comprehensive program “La Palma” seeks to strengthen and develop teaching methodologies through the pilot program, aimed at primary, high school and university students.

The English program was developed in collaboration with the Global Health Beat Foundation, Colegio La Palma, the “Buenos Aires Educational Project” (PEBA), the University of Tolima, the Secretary of Education and Teaching for Colombia). The design and methodology of the program was informed by data (resources and sociocultural and learning barriers identified in “Colegio La Palma”) collected by our GHBF team prior to its development.

The official launch of this program will take place during the month of July 2021, by the collaborative team.
